The
Time To Write
When it comes to writing a book, I had a
lot of people say to me ‘Wow! I’d love to have done that.’ So far, so good,
right? But then comes the kicker: ‘If only I had the time.’
This often makes me a little riled up,
because that’s just the thing about writing a book, as anyone who has written
one will tell you: there is no such thing as time to write a book. Okay, maybe
if you’re a super successful do-this-for-a-full-time-job kind of author. Then
your time to write a book is during working hours, but even so, with blog
tours, real tours, signings and the likes, I’d imagine it’d get tricky.
That’s my point, in case you haven’t
figured it out. There is no time. Time is really tricky to find; it’s hiding under
a rock in your garden, ignoring you when you call its name. As a result of this
elusive beast, I wrote my book:
- On the train
- In my lunch break
- At the doctor’s surgery
- I dictated ideas while cleaning the house
- I typed notes on my phone while walking the dogs
- I wrote a few witty (hopefully!) lines of dialogue while waiting in line at the supermarket
As you can see, I have no secret source of
time. And neither do any other authors I know of. So, if you have a hankering
to, get out there and write! Put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and
scribble down a few ideas. Because if I can do it, you sure can.

Lauren K. McKellar is an author and editor. Her debut novel, Finding

As well as
being a magazine editor for a national audited publication on pet care, Lauren
works as a freelance editor for independent authors, and was a Runner Up Editor
of the Year in the Publishers Australia awards in 2013.
Lauren is a
member of the Romance Writers of Australia and is obsessed with words--she
likes the way they work.
She lives
on the Central Coast of New South Wales with her fiance and their two
